If you want to see magnificent portraits of important and notable persons in London's history then you are better off visiting the National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square, London. This is a notable gallery because of its history. When it was first opened in 1856 it was the first Portrait Gallery in the world. The gallery holds a vast collection of portraits from various artists.

This house a lot of prominent people in London's history but a few decades ago it also started adding portraits of living persons to its gallery. You can consider visiting this site after going to National Gallery which is just beside it.

National Portrait Gallery Opening Hours


Mon - Tues - Wed - Sat - Sun: 10:00-18:00
Thur - Fri: 10:00-21:00


Admission prices


Entry to the building is free of charge, although there are ticket prices for special exhibitions that go on throughout the year. Disabled visitors are entitled to visit the Gallery at the Concessionary rates and their carers are admitted free of charge.
